Marvel TV Will Be More Important Than Marvel Movies In 2020

Has the super-secret Avengers 4 title been confirmed? Here’s everything we know

With months of speculation behind it, and almost a year to go till its release, a title for Avengers 4 has found its way online.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has said that the studio would not be revealing the title of the fourth Avengers film any time soon, but that only gives fans a wider window to speculate. Avengers 4 is still a year away, and will serve as a ‘significant conclusion’ for the record-breaking series of superhero films. But in the meantime, a new report suggests that a title was very much in place during filming.
The latest rumour suggests that the film, which will be the 22nd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was called Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet during production. Whether or not this title is retained is unconfirmed.
MCU Cosmic reports that Infinity Gauntlet was the only consistent title used by the cast and crew during the back-to-back filming of the two Avengers movies. And with Avengers: Infinity War destroying box office records, all eyes are now on Avengers 4, which will feature our favourite heroes’ final stand against the supervillain, Thanos.

The rumoured title is a reference to Thanos’ weapon, the gauntlet that gives him the power of destroying half the universe, which is exactly what he did at the end of Infinity War.
The biggest indicator that this could very well be the title came when Zoe Saldana inadvertently blurted it out on the red carpet for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2. “We all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year,” she said. Her statement is notable for two reasons. One, of course is that she might have revealed the super-secret title, but also because her character, Gamora, was killed off in Infinity War. Since it has long been rumoured that the surviving Avengers would use the Time Stone to travel back in time and perhaps save their fallen comrades, could this mean that some form of resurrection is in store for Gamora?
Marvel, it should be noted, was quick to diffuse this fire. When asked directly by Collider if Infinity Gauntlet was the title for the fourth Avengers movie, Feige said a definitive no.

Joe & Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind the two Avengers movies, on May 30 tweeted in response to a fan’s query if the reason why Marvel was keeping the title so close to their chest was because it spoiled certain plot points in Infinity War. They said yes.

The Russos also confirmed that no fan theory had come close to figuring out the title, however they said that Avengers: Forever came dangerously close. Another rumoured title was Avengers: Disassembled.
An unofficial first plot synopsis for the film was published in License Global magazine, the same outlet that released the first synopsis for Infinity War, earlier this month. “A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it,” it read.
